Needle Lace - Lesson 3d Point De Rose

Here is the latest lesson, warts and all. I took out my first attempt, and decided to keep the second version. I had to concentrate on this one, but I liked the challenge. Thanks, Aurelia, for posting these lessons! I'm patiently waiting for the next chapter.

Needle Lace Lesson 3c- Side Stitch

I took out my first attempt at the Side Stitch; I thought the stitches were too close together. Now I think the stitches are too far apart, but I'm not taking it out again.

I searched my public library, and reserved 'The Complete Encyclopedia of Needlework'. There should be some good pictures of completed lace along with diagrams of lace stitches. I also reserved 'Weldon's Practical Needlework', and discovered it is on the shelf at my local library branch. How interesting! My branch has no lace related books, I have to request everything. Perhaps I will make a little trip this morning.

Needle Lace - Lesson 3b

Double Brussels Stitch
Lessons from Aurelia Loveman, here.

I've been busy knitting a Baby Surprise Jacket, but took some time out to work a little needle lace. I expect another lesson soon, and I don't want to get too far behind.

Needle Lace - Lessons 3 and 3a

I should be knitting on socks, but Aurelia updated her needle lace blog with lessons 3 and 3a. I'm not sure if my tension is right, and I think I missed some stitches at the ends of the rows. The stray ends bother me, but I think they will be contained in the cordonnet in the end. I enjoy this little project. After years of shuttles, bobbins and knitting needles, I find it relaxing to sit with a simple needle and thread and make some stitches. We'll see how relaxing the next lessons are!
Tomorrow the West Michigan Lace Group meets, I'll bring my needle lace and tatted hanky for inspection.

Tatted Hanky - Finished!

This morning I gathered my courage and the sharpest pair of scissors I own, and set out to trim away the hanky corners. I worked slowly and carefully, I paused to take this picture about halfway through the 'surgery'. I decided if I didn't like the way it looked, I could remove the tatting from the hanky and try a different method on a new hanky. All I had to do was refrain from snipping the tatting.

I was successful! Here's a corner from the right side. All the tatting is intact; I can re-apply it to a new hanky at a later date if Mom isn't happy.
My mom wants to wear the hanky and tatting in a jacket pocket. I've folded the hanky, this is how it might look when Mom wears it.
